The Conflict Consortium house is a pretty cool idea that died in Feb 2014 due to Will Moore's inability to resolve the transaction costs it entails. He planned to post about it at Will Opines, but the best plans of mice and men...
You can read a description of the idea below. And CC remains open to proposals from enthusiastic members who believe they resolve transaction costs more efficiently than Moore (it may well be a low bar).
What might have been...
The CC house is a private condo or home that a group of CC members rent at large meetings, thereby providing the public good of space where conflict scholars can engage one another informally. We plan to rent a CC house at the annual meeting of APSA, ISA and MPSA each year, inviting a different group of folks to "live-in" each time.
What happens at the house? The CC house is not only a space for folks who are staying in it, but also a space where other community members might meet with co-authors, have a small mini-conference, or what have you. To do so they will need to schedule in advance (details later).
For the folks who stay at the house there is little planned activity: you are there for a conference, right? On two of the evenings the house will host a Triple C dinner, and those staying in the house are asked to attend one of the dinners. After dinner is an Open House for CC members (i.e., scholars and researchers who study conflict). We ask each CC house guest to attend one of the dinners, but other than that, those staying at the CC house are free to do as they see fit.
